Q&A with Coach Jordan

Q:  What has your team/sport done in the off season:

A:  We finished another solid summer and fall leading in to the Winter basketball season.  Most notably, In the Virginia Wesleyan Summer Team Camp, 36 teams across Virginia came together over a 3 day period.  We beat some very talented teams the likes of Lake Taylor, Kecoughtan, Potomac and Green Run that weekend. We were fortunate to make it to the final 4 before running out of gas at the very end against a talented Granby team.  Despite a number of key injuries we participated in the Boo Williams Fall League in the Elite division and won a number of highly contested games against some key opponents on the Peninsula and Southside which will give our guys confidence heading in to the upcoming season.

Q:  Talk about the Seniors anchoring the team this year:

A:  The only returning senior starter Jacob Murillo brings a ton of experience back with the likes of Projected Starters Bryce Alves & Lavonte Brown anchoring the front line and Guard Adam King coming off a knee injury suffered in the football season will provide key senior leadership.  Junior Kiran Durant has improved significantly and will be relied on night in and night out.  Look for him to have a breakout season.

Q:  What do you want the Grafton Parents to know about your program?

A:  It’s hard to believe that I enter my 7th season as head coach.  Our goals for the upcoming season include trying to win 20 games, win the Bay Rivers Regular Season title, something we have done 3 out of the last 4 years.  Stay healthy, come together as a team and compete for a state bid in what will be a very highly competitive division in 4A.   Having won more games than any other public school on the Peninsula and Southside over the past 4 years (100-12 record) certainly puts a target on your back but it’s one we embrace as a program.
